The name Jem Machine was picked for the original partner's wives initials in the early 80's. Judy, Eleanor and Marilyn. We also had another company called Mill Creek Lumber and Jem Machine started as somewhat of a sideline.
Mill Creek Lumber was closed and Gene and Judy Dandliker purchased the name and assets of Jem Machine and fate and chance relocated to Grangeville, Idaho in 1984.
Jem Machine started out installing sawmill machinery, then dismantling sawmill machinery and then rebuilding and selling mill machinery. We have done projects worldwide including Russia, South America, Australia and New Zealand.
Jem Machines owns what it sells and operates with a low overhead. We stay with up-scale capital machinery that fits the application and we can offer a bigger bang for the buck.
Gene Dandliker has spend his entire life in the sawmill industry. Gene served a 8,000 hour machinist apprenticeship and has work for Nicholson Manufacturing, CM & E, Lamb Greys Harbor and Manitowoc before starting his own company.
Jem Machine has down sized and this is Gene's way of retiring. We operate out of a 12,000 sq. ft. shop and have another 12,000 sq. ft. dry storage building. We have 5 acres of used equipment and currently have 5 employees. Gene does take more time to fly his Piper 180 and tries to limit himself to only a 60 hour work week.
Our mission statement for our employees is quite simple - if you would not purchase an item from Jem Machine, I don't want it shipped.
Our mission statement to our clients and customers is that if Jem Machine can't make or save you money, we should not do business together.
